IP is for societies gain
No, the purpose of IP is to assure that the creator of IP receives the reward expected. That's the basic principle of a capitalist society. IP is capital.

Your argument puts the cart before the horse. I just doesn't make sense what so ever.

If what you say is true then there is no incentive to invent or create. Money gained on the status quo would be much better. What incentive is there to create if all you do is reward what has already been created and lock others out from creating (destroying the revenue of the status quo).

This exactly the fight that is going on with Digital Music.

People create first then get rewarded they don't see the reward first then try to create to get said reward. That is why people who love what they do succeed and people who are there just for the dollar fail. Who do you want to reward? The creative person with a dream or the greedy uncreative businessman who resists change?

Consider this. Would a musician create if there were no copyrights? You bet they would. Would movies make money? Sure would! Would books sell? Sure they will. IP laws aren't required to gain a reward. What is nice about IP laws is they add a little certainty to the mix. 90 years after the death of the creator for copyright is maddness. 37 year patents on simple ideas is maddness. Trademarks allowed on common a word is maddness. IP laws today are not about encouraging innovation and creativity but about maintain the monopoly.
