AMD to release dual-core server chips

Desktop chips will be out soon

Given that the desktop model of the chip will be available shortly, I don't think it's really a big deal that AMD targeted the server market first.

Personally I need the desktop model but aren't in the market for a new machine for a year or so anyhow. And since Intel isn't actually *shipping* any dual core chips yet, AMD still has a chance to get a jump on them with both server and desktop chips available.

From your post, I would point out that the idea is not to replace a dual processor box with a single dual core processor. These server chips are aimed at multi-CPU machines, so it's more likely that an interested business would replace, say, a 4-CPU box with a 4-CPU dual core box thereby seeing an actual improvement in performance.
