Technology and Medicine
If Amzon.com knows more about Mr. Barrett than his doctor, perhaps he should find another physician or be more candid and open with his medical history when asked, by his doctor.
In the 20 years that I have been a physician, the "Health Care (insurance?)Industry" has become way inefficient, as Mr. Barret states. But it seems to me that it directly co-incides with the growth of the information technology industry and its exploitation by the health insurance industry so it can take the lead role in what was once a "Doctor-Patient" relationship. The health insurance industry's contamination of this relationship and resultant layers paperwork and administrative hassles is what has caused the ineffiency in our health care industry.
Maybe it's ok for Amazon.com to know what kind of books we read but how much of our personal medical information do we want out there, on the Matrix? Is anything sacred?
