Way too complex.....
"The capability of computers keeps growing and the number of applications running keeps increasing, but the people building the interface keep growing the complexity of that,".....it's nuts....

Way back when the computers were slow, but one developer could maintain mega thousands of lines of code because of consistent interfaces and simple ways of programming. A new programmer could step in and quickly learn to maintain another programmer's code. This is no longer the case and the cost for business is sky high.

In the total cost of ownership pie, the software complexity piece has the greatest potential savings.
