- AMD nice try but could do better with budget 64.
-
AMD should have done these things in order to increase sales and made the cheaper 64 more appealing.
Dual Channel DDr support (there is a reason that everyone loves the Asus Nforce2 board and is still selling).
Keep the Cache! Nobody likes celeron or duron for performance and that's exactly what is being done.
Keep the speed. For people to want to move to 64-bit processing the want the megahertz even if for bragging rights.
Price. $200 is still expensive I don't care what Intel or AMD thinks. For $200 you could buy a dvd burner, Tivo, over a gig of ram, a new video card, a 5.1 stereo reciever, or almost build a new cheap pc.
Faster FSB! The 64-bit process should of have a wider pipeline like the P4. I don't see AMD increasing the processor fast enough in FSB or GHZ. Not only that it hurts ram performance also. Look how much faster the new EE P4 are compared to the 64-bit AMDs.
Why can't you buy these things at Circuit City or Best Buy? I have seen processors at Best Buy but usually the slower 32-bit AMD 2500s. And even then they where double the price of what you could find online.
Rumors of changing socket a couple of months down the road. This would really keep me from buying the processor if I couldn't upgrade 6 months down the road.
New technologies comming in the next year. With DDr2 and PCI express everyone is waiting for the new Mother Boards.
AMD was to quiet about this processor. NO ADVERTISEMENT = NO SALES.
In conclusion AMD should lower price more, throw in the features of the FX processor, and keep socket the same like they did with the Athlon XP. - Posted by: rexoverbey Posted on: 12/21/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
