I always find it amusing
I always find it amusing that web surfing is always included in taks that benefit from faster processors. It does not. Just surfing the web doesn't take much resources at all. Your connection speed and the speed of the host providing the website have a much larger impact on your browsing experience.

They still list it, lol.

Same with instant messaging, which I note they also included - you're sending short text messages, for crying out loud! How is that going to benefit from a faster processor?

OK, the things that do benefit:
-Heavy duty image editing. Making a small icon, no, but if you're manipulating a posterboard sized graphic at high resolution, you're going to need some muscle.

-Rendering, especially raytracing or animation.

-3D games - high-end games like Doom3 are always trying to push the limits. True photorealism hasn't been achieved, and they're not going to stop until they achieve it (and even then I'm sure they won't stop ;)). Not to mention that AI and physics are starting to gobble up CPU power these days.

-Webpage serving (and other similar tasks) - you have to handle thousands, even millions of requests for webpages.

-Massively Multiplayer games - handling large amounts of players online at the same time, keeping track of a large persistent world is a huge task.

-Fullscreen video. OK, that's becoming less of a factor these days, but it still requires a
