- Market adoption for Itanium has been hampered by software, but there are interesting developments. The LINUX 2.6 kernel is showing that it can scale well on the largest Itanium systems, and now that RH4 is out, I expect greater market acceptance for larger DB servers. Similarily, the market is beginning to recognize that MS SQL also scales well on Itanium. Itanium does very well in the 10TB TPC-H, that is the closest benchmark for large datawarehouse/decision support/business intelligence environments. This year should be good for Itanium, and 2006 should be even better with Montecito.
