Another way to track consumers?
Hmmm. . .

Given Microsoft's incessant push for DRM over every aspect of the "user experience," I can foresee the day in which these things could be used, or rather abused, for a heck of a lot more than telling time or checking stock quotes. How about a built-in GPS sending your location and marketing preferences to the nearest store or mall kiosk so that your privacy is nil and you're constantly accosted by cyber sales pitches at every turn-- all part of the pre-agreed EULA, of course. Sort of a high-tech version of the much disputed RFT's about to be employed in stores. It'll be just like the internet is now, 'cept in the future you can also get spammed everywhere you go in meatspace as well. I'm sure just enough "useful" features would be included in these watch devices to deter the average Joe consumer from ditching the damn things. Just like certain other technologies that abound and flourish even though it means a loss of privacy and control.

My innate paranoia at these efforts made me recall the following line from Tolkien. Substitute "watch" for "ring."

"One ring to rule them all, one
ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."
