Next gen battery tech.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Fuel Cells described this way in the article. Usually they are discussed in the context of hydrogen as an "energy source". Fuel cells have some real promise, but somehow 90% of the population has been confused into thinking they are something more than they are.

One thing I can't understand is why the applications of fuel cells are focused on things like either laptops or cars. To develop this technology, they should focus first on applications where small amounts of power are needed, but package size isn't critical. Cars will require a great deal of power, and laptops will require an extremly small form factor. Why not start by making the 12 volt marine battery obsolete? Think about all of the RVs, bass boats, etc which could form a market for fuel cells. I don't see why they don't prove the concept there, and then move on to laptops, etc.
