The Alpha chip is a RISC chip - as is the Sparc and Power 5. The whole point of Itanic is the EPIC architecture - which SHOULD be the "ultimate" layout for a chip. Basically its back to basics! Take ALL of the complexity OUT of the "hardware" (chip) - and place it in software. Nice idea, but since software progresses at a much slower pace than hardware - so goes the Itanic uptake.
