Let's see Intel also said that desktop ownwers don't need 64 bit power. While their shoe was in their mouth AMD went from also ran to better than 30% of the market. AMD introduced the dual core processor and now Intel is introducing AMD chip designs that aren't backwards compatible. The install base for X86 is huge and its legacy spans almost 30 yrs, sorry but too much software and support is available to state that it wont eat into Itaniums market as the Opteron have done already. And Now with the 64 bit Xeons and others these will furthur erode any market that the Itanium has carved out.
