Hmmmm
Guess today is my day for realising how slow I am.
Im trying to translate this into NZ experience (to see if there is an actual global M$/Intel conspiracy) and thinking about the purchase for my business it seemed yep....thats what they do alright, the upgrade cycle is as deeply embedded in hardware wholesalers and retailers as it is in software, although a few months reading this forum is going to make for a VERY interesting conversation with some vendors next time the come to see me...I digress....

Then I realised that the PC I bought for home had windows XP SP2 loaded yes........butttt......no Word or Office or anything - just came preloaded with OpenOffice and a free CD for it for me to pass around to my friends...I hadnt even thought about it until reading this.

Is the preloading of OpenOffice by RETAILERS something that happens much or at all in the US?

i.e. is the following a configuration you might see over there?

just curious now
