- USB vs Firewire
- USB draws its power from the host CPU, Firewire is a device to device interface (ie. DVR to video camera (webcams are USB, typically) for digital video production or video cam to hard disk (direct connect) or some ther media application (no PC required). USB also requires a host with enough power to handle it, Firewire does not require the host to have a CPU (Intel, AMD, SPArc, etc.). That is the basic difference. Firewire is 800 MBs (currently) and USB2 is 480MBs but if you have n devices talking, the bandwidth to the devices is 480MBs/n.
