Processor inflation is probably the only thing the microprocessor industry has going for it right how and it doesn't help nearly as much as it used to, which is part of why Itanium is struggling (another reason is that Intel made the bad assumption that they could kill off x86 simply by loudly announcing that Itanium was "the future").

Realistically, though, the laws of both economics and physics both say Moore's Law has to taper off eventually, and I strongly suspect sooner rather than later.
