You are a Mike Cox wannabe, right?
Congratulations to Intel for leading the industry to not only world class process technology, but also creating a platform level ecosystem of ISV's, IHV's and tools to make it happen
The last time I recall Intel leading was just before AMD got sick and tired of waiting to see what Intel would do and created the Athlon line.

In fact, AMD was leading before that from around the launch of the first Pentium chip and the K6 CPU. There were major family differences between 8086, 80286, 80386, 80486 and 80586 (a.k.a., Pentium/K6 family). Since then, no major differences and with each 'new' chip that Intel brought, AMD brought something that was far more innovative and performed better.

AMD lead with Multimedia, 3D processing, stability, FPU's, pipelining, out-of-order processing, parallel tasking, ipc speeds, MIPS speeds, 64-bit CPU's, dual core CPU's, a better slot design, return to socket design, lower max power consumption, reduced heat production, improved thermal dissipitation,....

They may have the greater market share --and losing it fast in the server rooms-- but they stopped leading the industry a long time ago.

Go to http://www.amd.com/ and check their timetable for dual core technology for servers, workstations, desktops and laptops. Also look at their 64-bit timetable. Look long and hard and then maybe you can recognise an industry leader.

I do give my congrats to Intel for finally setting their focus right on better CPU designs for faster data processing and not faster FSB and CPU speeds for greater heat production. It took them too long to get the message but they got it. Thank God for competition.

I guess I bit.
