Good vision
When Moore's law runs out of steam (around the 20nm sizes . . .), speed gains will NOT come from x86 anymore. Only a change in architecture will allow apps to speed up. EPIC is the "ultimate" design because hardware routines are minimal - thus more chip "real estate" can be used for "the basics". Of course, that P4 core that is part of IA-64 needs to be removed to make the chip "better" . . . wink
