Are you running a 32-bit OS or a 64-bit OS?
There are a couple of factors that can limit what you can address with a AMD64 system. The first comes from the choice of mobo, if they have only 2 slots or 3+ (RAM tends to top off at 1GB/stick). If you are running a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit systems, the OS is the chockpoint. A 64-bit OS (of which there have been many over the years) can generally address much more than a few terabytes of RAM. There is more to 64-bits then just memory, though.
