This will burn Dell eventually
I just can't understand why the most stable hobbyist system can't win over the techies at Dell... Oh yea it's about the money, lol. I concede most people don't even understand what the cpu even does in a computer and dell is aware of this as well. Thing is, Dell has opened windows for it's competitors by not using and AMD platform. I don't know a single AMD user that has had problems with either Asus or MSI mobos and registered memory. I wonder what those mobo makers tell Intel when AMD runs windows better? It does - I have four AMD machines that NEVER lock up. NEVER. My girlfriend's HP is a total joke and a hot runner to boot - which undoubtedly explains it's lack of stablity. My office if full of Dell's and most work fine. But they're not speedy. AMD is really the best desktop cpu for any platform. I'd love to see Apple use them - they already use the same memory and a more limited application of hypertransport anyway. AMD can go cross-platform just like IBM did with it's dumbed-down Power series (G5). Single Athlon64's smoke dual-G5 rigs in RENDERING (Mac's apparent stronpoint) - and those procs are clocked at about the same speed even though AMD only needs one (due to on-die memory controller). Athlon64's have been in laptops since last summer and Apple is still putting G4's in it's Powerbook line. I love that Alienware made a name for itself by selling hot Athlon systems a few years back and look at them. Companies are having great success with AMD. Dell just has too sweet a deal with Intel. I hope companies continue to make gains with my fave proc. peace
