Dell's stance on AMD: Look but don't touch

Foolish, and here's why ...

All Dell's eggs are in the Intel basket. It's getting to look a lot like the Firestone-Ford marriage.

While the chances are extremely remote, if something catastrophic were to happen to Intel, a bad design, a fabrication process, legal issues, ... whatever ... , it could impact Dell. Dell has no alternate source of supply. That's just lunacy. These are the kinds of things that permanently hurt once mighty companies, then you look back and wonder how could they be so stupid. Of course, they'll probably stay lucky.

Even if Dell was supplying a small % of their products with AMD and the rest with Intel, they would have a channel already open and mobo designs in place. They would at least have the option (like all their competitors) to make adjustments in production and meet some demand.
