Free upgrade?
When I bought a Gateway a few years back, it came with Windows 95, but since Windows 98 was on the horizon, they offered a free upgrade as an incentive to buy now rather than wait. Perhaps they got a cost break from MS to do that, I don't know.

E-Machines, since we know they'll want to install Windows on it, ought to consider doing the same thing here. Offer 32 bit XP on the machines, but offer a free upgrade to 64 bit when it becomes available (and if MS does offer OEM incentives perhaps this is a time to do it as well). This way they won't have so many people waiting for MS to catch up to upgrade.

Of course I could mention that several Linux distributions have already come out with x86-64 versions of their OSes, but I highly doubt E-Machines will be offering any of those. So if you're going to be paying for a copy of Windows anyway, offering the free upgrade would be the way to go to get people to buy now.
