"protected AAC files ...help try to stop illegal coping of music."

"if you really dont like that you bought it in AAC format, you can always convert it to MP3. "

If *I* can convert to Mp3 then so can a pirate, just like they convert from CD to MP3 now.

Whereas the watermarking strategy would help without the annoying license stuff and restrictions.

I really think that this DRM is just the result of a mindf*** that Microsoft played on the media industry. Industry wanted an end to piracy, MS saw a sucker and told them DRM would fix it and have some *extra* benefits, like pay per play at the flick of a switch.

I looked back in time, but MS seemed to be the first to push DRM I could find.

I think though that MP3 is what consumers want, so delivering anything else (especially anything *less*) is just doomed to fail. WMA improved quality didn't sell it, so I don't see why AAC will fair better.

But its just my opinion, lets see how it plays out.
