iPod on Windows and Macs
I use my iPod with both also. Format the iPod for Windows and it will work flawlessly on both machines. When I bought my iPod, the APPLE sales person at CompUSA told me there was no way to use the iPod with both platforms. I told him I was pretty sure he was wrong. He said no he wasn't, and I especially would NOT be able to use it between a Win2k machine and my Powerbook with OS 9. He was absolutely wrong. I installed the software on the PC and formatted the iPod. Then I plugged it into the Powerbook. It shows up on the desktop and works just like a disc drive, and plays the songs from it with the iTunes for OS 9. You should have seen his face when I took my PC iPod back to his store and plugged it into one of their new Powerbooks. He almost fell on the floor. I even copied songs from their machine to my iPod!!!!!
While some people may complain about not supporting WMA files, or other lack of features, I find iTunes to be excellent. It truly makes all other music software unnecessary. The first thing I did after the install was to dump that junk called MusicMatch Jukebox. It would install my music in alphabetical order on the iPod. Even listen to an album in ALPHABETICAL order?? Talk about random. I dumped all 8 gigs of tunes and reinstalled them on my iPod and guess what?!! The songs are in the order of the album. So while some may complain about this or that about iTunes, I absolutely love it. It's not just about music sales, and competing with other PC-only music sites, it's about ease of use and simple support for the iPod. Apple has done more to get me excited about music I already own than anything the recording industry or Microsoft will ever do. Way to go Apple.
