What would HP gain by offering a dual boot pc? They might frighten off regular buyers who would see extra complications on their Windows box, and a Linux fan wouldn't want to pay for the extra strength hardware needed to run Windows. Linux fans are also averse to Windows, so they too would only have extra software.

Doing something nice for the Linux desktop is more philanthropy than a business can afford.
