- A better title? "The race to the bottom"

Let's face it, PC innovation has NOT moved much in the last two or three years. A three year old machine looks and performs no different than a brand new box, or at least Joe Average user can't see any real world difference.
So, then what is the deciding factor when buying a new machine? The answer of course is price. He who sells a commodity item cheapest wins the competition. Or as they say in manufacturing, there can only be one *cost* producer, everyone else is an also ran.

HP has a very deep bench of some great minds and innovators. It's a strength the likes of Dell and Gateway have never had and likely never will. This is something that can be built upon and used as a market advantage if used properly.
