Was M$'s abortive work with Alpha/MVS just to swipe MVS technology?
Back then their "support" for Alpha was
comparible to the Mac support in recent years, and limit
the processor to running second class code, even in
MS terms. The Alphas that were running MS's code
were so slow that everybody felt cheated compare to
the amount of money they have to spent.

... and that's because:
Microsoft never really supported Alpha

Supposedly one of the few strengths of NT at the end
of its dreary, kludgy life was MVS. M$ snagged MVS
from HP, but was it only under the guise of working with
HP to port NT to Alpha? The port was unsuccessful, the
collaboration was brief, and M$ walked away with MVS,
right?

Seems like another case of M$ collaborating with a
"partner" for the purpose of ripping off said partner's IP,
in this case, the DEC/HP-created MVS. Mmmm,
lessee, Stacker, Real, ... Geeez, can't remember them
all...

Or am I mistaken? Just seems like M$'s relationship
with HP was abortive, at best. Did acquisition of MVS
happen some other way? Like from IBM in M$'s
abortive fling with OS/2?
