I read the article about Cell technology and it interested me in a number of ways. Firstly it illustrates how quickly the technology market moves. The advent of 64-bit computing was supposedly the single biggest revolution in computing allowing us to address even more memory. But now cell technology seems tipped to be a revolution because of it's capabilities and suitability to distributed computing.
The second part of this article I found interesting was Mectron's post about this article. He says that software/hardware developers are trying to "control what peoples do with the content they pay for". I agree that sometimes software/hardware companies do seem unfair in their pricing and I do support the GNU scheme. Mectron seems to be hinting at people's rights to freedom to do what they want with what they buy, but at the same time the developer has rights to do what he/she wants to do with what they have created.
If I designed a piece of software I would want payment for what I had done, through money or satisfaction. In the case of developers they are not selling the software they created they are selling the right for you to use that software according to their terms. I ask you now Mectron, and those who agree with his view, two questions;
1. How would you like to see someone spread your idea which, could make you a large return as their own idea and potentially make money on it themselves?
2. Do you object to the fact that you have to pay to go and see a movie?
