We are talking percentages here. If all were up then we have over 100% of the market buying. If the market consisted of two peole before and one had a P4 and the other an AthlonXP then the market is 50-50% split. If the guy with the Athlon then buys a Sempron, it does not rise to 50-100% split of 150%: it shifts to 33-67% split of 100%.

If Intel and AMD went up then someone (in this case, some two) had to go down. Total sales are up but market share is a share of the entire market.
