VoIP
VoIP IS a big deal for a telephone company. The equipment is much cheaper than the current circuit switches. Rememnber, just because the protocol is IP doesn't automatically mean that they will use the internet. All long distance phone companies already have high capacity digital networks. I would assume that they would continue to use the dedicated networks and just change the protocol to IP. In the current networks the packets are dumb and the hardware is smart. With IP, the packets are smart and the hardware can be dumb(i.e. cheap).
