be realistic
Look, we live in the real world, not a Philip K. Dick novel.

Using a VoIP is possibly SAFER than using a POTS line. A POTS line simply terminates in well-understood grey box on the side of your house. You can walk right up with a screwdriver, open the box, and disconnect the phone. Wanna guess how many more thieves are familiar with ways to disable a POTS phone than a VoIP line? And even if someone did cut the primary line, that can't prevent you from calling 911 on your cell.

This sort of criticism sounds reminiscent of the scare mongering that preceded e-commerce. People went around telling all the media how scary and insecure it is to give a credit card over the Internet. But they forgot how scary it is to give your credit card to a waiter in a restaurant.

Fact is, the risks are present in both, so let's not pretend we?d live in a riskless world were it not for these new "scary" technologies.
