Can't change people
One thing I have learnt in my years using first a PC and now a
Mac, is that you choose to use a certain platform because of
what it can offer you. Sure you might find that PC's are faster,
but with the hog that is Microsoft, the machine runs like a dog. I
have used Linux and it is good, however the lack of
commercially viable software puts it in the realm of enthusiast or
server. The Mac will in the near future be able to run anything,
OS X, Windows, Linux, all natively. I can't find software which is
as slick to use as some of the offerings from Apple, Final Cut
Pro, DVD Studio Pro, that I use daily. I can get all the other apps
I need for the mac and the whole user experience leaves
windows in the dust. That is the reason I use a Mac, not because
someone argues that the PC is faster or cheaper. The interesting
thing I find is that Windows XP cannot even play a simple DVD
out of the box, and needs expensive virus protection and
firewall software to keep the nasties at bay. The Mac is protected
well right out of the box, even if you could hack it, it is very hard
to bring the system down because of the nature of Unix and
having to gain root user access. Windows is by default useless
unless you enable Administrator rights on the machine. But that
then leaves it open to hackers. When I install an application on
the mac, it needs my password. Even if someone develops a
virus, it will be hard to install and propogate on the Mac. How
many known viruses for PC? Around 83,000 and counting. If
someone knows the correct figure I would love to hear it. I just
think use a PC if you want to follow the sheep, and think
different if you use a mac. I guarantee there are more people
that have switched from using a PC to a Mac than there have
been the other way around. In fact switchers are the worst, we
are like reformed smokers, we will avangelise the Mac to the
end.
