A few advises.
1. Mini Mac is a very good move. This situation reminds me a lot like when the original iMac, iBook (clamshell) and LCD "lamp" iMac were introduced. People consider it cool and cannot wait to get one. This time, add those fancy feelings with less price. That does help.

2. I will order $499 model and upgrade RAM to at least 512 Mb (1Gb Max.). The lager hard drive in $599 one can be compensated with external hard drive, which is getting way too cheap ($599 one also has slightly faster CPU, but I do not consider it significant enough for me).

3. Purchase a Mini Mac is just the beginning of you Mac experience. The cost does not stop there if you do not have any Mac experience. I will not hesitate to add MS Office for Mac. For international users, try to get MS Office 2004 for Mac because it supports Unicode and therefore can be used for Korean, Chinese, Thailand..... right out of the box. The previous version, namely Office v X: Mac cannot be used for to process Korean or Chinese (it supports Japanese ^_^) if it is not "patched" (written by a Korean).

4. After the exciting phase passed, you will find PC and Mac is not too different (I know you will argue about this, but for me, those are both excellent platforms and "Mac is easier to use" is not true for me).
A.) The prettier interface in MacOS X is exciting, but it can only bring you that far. After that, you need some meat (or vegetable).
B.) For PC users, if you are so tired of Windows interface, check Astonshell (highly recommended) at http://www.astonshell.com/skins/?section=0. You will find that it can even said that it is better than MacOS X.

5. Mac applications might not have as much variety as Windows, but you can find always find a proper software packages for what you want to do. Software packages from Apple, in my humble opinion, have very high quality and overall more stable (if someone tells you Mac software never crash, wait until you see it the first time).

6. It is really very exciting to see Apple also has their own Office applications (iWork). It is time for another Office application to compete with Microsoft Office because in Windows or Linux, there are too much choices. I used ClarisWorks and now, Apple Works a lot, but have no chance to use iWork yet, so no commend here. I give it my best wish, though.

Just my 2cent.
