Every Time I Read Such Absolutes . . .
... as "we've reached the limits of technology" or "our understanding of physics prevents", etc, within months i'm reading how someone somewhere has figure a way around the challenges and we continue to get smaller. why shouldn't a hard drive be the size of a thumbtack and surface-mountable in a device the size of a pack of gum? unless another technology supplants this (ie, solid state devices), i fully expect that someone somewere will continue to make hard drives smaller because they can, and that the doubting Thomases quoted in this article will be playing catch-up to an understanding of the laws of physics that they'd so readily dismissed.

if all the above wasn't true, consider that years ago i read a quote in pc magazine saying that computer speeds couldn't be much faster than 10-mhz because of all the problems with controlling the rf emissions. as an engineer, i say don't tell me it can't be done, just tell me what you want and be sufficiently patient to wait for it to be done (which could be years if we don't yet understand the physics sufficiently well to make it happen now).
