my take

Gates is a landlord, who has bought houses over
time and rented them out, making a huge empire.
However, Apple by comparison is a company making
superb beautiful inventive houses to their own
designs. Gates tries to ape house designs by
Apple and others, but they don't have any flair.

Crucial to Gates' business is stopping a
co-operative of people building their own houses.
If they can make their own houses for nothing but
their own labour, then people will stop renting
Gates' houses.
Apple's houses will always be rentable because
they build them with flair.
