I haven't heard of any phone able to switch between CDMA and GSM. Usually, dual-mode and tri-mode refers to the ability to access two or three different types of GSM networks: 900, 1800 and 1900.
AT&T, Cingular and T-Mobile all use the GSM standard and I can already roam from one network to the other. I don't see how they can prevent me from keeping my phone when switching. If it works when I roam, I should be working when I am a customer...
Requiring that a CDMA phone works in a GSM network or viceversa is silly to me. Do we expect that program written for Windows run on Mac or Linux?
