A year late and a dollar too expensive
"We think this holiday (season) was about digital photography first and foremost...A year from now I think entertainment is going to be an equally big deal, as is digital photography"

This corporate babble is just pure rationalization: digital photography AND digital music are both hot this year. HP just missed the boat, pure and simple. The sad part is that COMPAQ had brought out some niftly little MP3 players, including a flash memory player the size of a matchbox. HP killed the entire line after they took over.

HP is going to miss this Christmas season, that much is given. What they need to do is introduce a "so-so" model in January, with GOOD download service. Then bring out the REAL whiz-bang model in time for the 2004 back-to-school through holiday season.

Of course Dell, Sony, and Gateway (if they're still around by then) will be doing exactly the same thing, only a year ahead ...

Too bad HP. Everyone there is so scared of Fiorina and Robison that they are even afraid to breathe, much less have an original thought or take a risk.
