RE: 1 Ghz. VIA CPU. You got to be kidding.
>Well, a GEO sells for a lot less than the Cadillac too. Does that mean they are the same in features and functions? Not hardly!

I suppose that depends on what you're comparing. Referring to the subject of your post I can only assume you're not familiar with current processors offered in current MS-powered tablet PCs.

By far, most tablet PCs offer Crusoe, P3 or Mobile P4 CPUs ranging from 800 MHz - 1.0 GHz. There are a couple exceptions, notably a convertible model from Toshiba available in 1.5 and 1.7 GHz flavors (though it STARTS at $2199,) and a convertible from Gateway weighing in with a 1.4 GHz or 1.6 GHz processor (it starts at $1799.) Other models out there from Acer, HP/Compaq, etc. and even additional models from Gateway all range between 800 MHz and 1 GHz, and they're all terribly expensive... ranging from $1699+ for the Compaqs to $2200+ for the Gateway tablet (non-convertible model... still unsure why that one is so much more expensive than HP's own, more powerful, convertible.)

Personally, I don't there's a reason for a Linux tablet until the handwriting recognition software becomes available, but I also don't think there's any good reason for a Windows tablet until they get their handwriting sw in working order... maybe both camps should look to Apple for this one. Seriously, Apple had handwriting down with the Newton (to date probably the best handwriting recognition ever released to the consumer market) and they've done a great job implementing it into Jaguar and Panther. It can't be too much of a stretch to get it into Linux, a bit more complicated to get it into Windows.
