If all the new processor chip designs were based on photons for the internal medium instead of electrons, seems that you could elminate both the size barrier and heat problem. I'm just a layman when it comes to the present design chip design methods, but do know that it takes more energy to move electrons than photons and if most of the enternal fuctions of a new chip could be converted to reading the presence(1) and the absence(0) of photons would be the way around Moore's Law.
