I hope that Lenovo DOES fail...
I am absolutely sick about reading how selling or outsourcing manufacturing to third-world powers like China and India is good for business. While it may provide a short-term boost in terms of cash and reduced manpower and management drains, ultimately it saps the economy of strength and vitality.

If IBM wants to make more (or lose less) money on making PCs, a better course would have been to find a way to compete with Dell by supplying a broad range of customers with a total package of products and services that make sense. In this light, making PCs would be like supermarkets selling milk and bread, Gillette selling razors, Kodak selling camera, etc.

Instead, this deal will move jobs, capital and profits overseas to a nation that is not clearly our friend and that is not clearly a market for the products and service that do originate here.

I'm not a big fan of Dell products, and I really hate it that they try to provide customer service from India, but I'd rather see American companies buy from an American producer. It would be better for all of us in the long run.
