Prospect of Linux/MS Windows
MS has been its own enemy for quite some time now. The embarassing incidences on security is their latest failure and not their only or last one. It is the one that has attracted the serious attention of the corporate world. Nobody wants important financial data being hijacked or even altered remotely.

There is a shift in management's perception that MS is the only way for desktops. In the companies people do not usually get to select the platform they should use. These are decisions by the IT management. MS platforms has costed billions in deployment, maintenance and continuous clean up costs. If the large scale Linux projects currently underway succceed, then many IT managers are going that way since there is very tangible cost savings and increased security. Once orgnizations start deploying non-MS systems the marked share of windows will start dropping precipitously since it will be driven by one organization and not just a user at a time.

Then people will think twice to obtain ms windows at home.

MS is not going away any time soon. But the conversion rates are increasing and the we may see remarkable changes sooner than later.

Anyway, my statements that even non-technical people can be better off with non-MS platforms still stands. It's just a matter of people getting used to a new interface. I know many people who move from MS to non-MS BUT NOT the opposite.
