Pricing is giong to be another factor
I see China as the largest threat to companies producing the
lower price range computers. Dell has already announced that
the are going to stop selling the bottom ranges in China because
they cannot compete with local companies on price.

It some point these manufacturers are going to put together a
Linux computer that will be noticeably cheaper than Dell, or any
other US company. They need to add some open source apps
and probably develop a few apps to help sell them to consumers
- maybe a knockoff of Apple's iLife.

While the comments about companies refreshing their
computers, followed by a lull is logical I believe a flood of very
cheap computers from China will have a similar impact.
