Considering survival
Note that Apple outsells Gateway/eMachines. That's impressive. But I still think Apple will expand its product portfolio in the coming years into many varieties of home electronics, wherever their design and quality skills can make a profit for them. They'll make it.

Other companies don't have that option, though a number seem to have tried.

IBM's sales are also impressive, given the way they retreated from the consumer market. Though the article doesn't give numbers, this is a good indication that businesses buy more than their share of pc's.

But the most significant implication is that some companies are not going to make it. Given that companies must support their products, not many businesses (or even consumers) are going to purchase from a company on its way out. That means that as soon as a manufacturer is identified as in trouble, their sales decline will almost certainly accelerate.

So the manufacturers will be watching the prominent market analysts closely. A bad review of a company's prospects could kill the company.
Now that's power over the market.
