Perhaps, but . . .
But, we could go a long way towards conserving what remains of our fossil fuels and preserve the enviroment at the same time.
True, and this technology will probably be one of many to make that possible.

The best thing about Stirling engines is they're very simple, cheap, efficient, and can run on even a small temperature difference. My grandfather made a small one that will run off the heat given off by a hand. It didn't do much, but it is a fine example of the efficiency of the Stirling engine.

The Stirling engine is an engine which deserves a lot more respect and research. It only takes a small difference in temperature to run a stirling engine, so it could potentially be used for an interesting use:

Many power plants (and indeed other stuff such as factories) have one thing in common: They give off a lot of heat. Anywhere where you have exaust or other heated (or even cooled) waste products, a stirling engine can be used to take advantage of the temperature difference and recover that heat to produce electricity or otherwise recover the energy. I see great potential for Stirling engines, especially for recovering normally lost energy.
