- bad math equivalent to Hoover dam cost $200million in this technology
-
Production cost $50,000 (the $150k is Prototype cost).
Hoover dam produces 1350 Megawatts. In the test system, 6 engines produced 150Kw (25kW each).
So therefore you need around 40,000 engines to replace Hoover dam, at a cost of $200million.
Note: equivalent to replace nuclear power station would be $50million. (although they come in different sizes).
$200 million is much cheaper than $5billion to build a nuclear power station.
Compared with Lake Mead (247 square miles, or 158,000 acres), I think these engines would cover far less space.
I don't know what this is but it's to do with nuclear energy: but the "USDOE's Hanford Site covers 560 square miles of desert". I guess that makes lake mead look small.
So as far as I can see, the Stirling engines are far far cheaper than a Nuclear power plant, and probably take much less space, and there are no problems of long term storage and contamination. - Posted by: hipparchus2000 Posted on: 11/25/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
