Correction
I have always been an AMD backer, perferring competition
over monopoly any time. But I don't believe AMD has
"unseated Intel for the #1 spot in... desktop sales." Intel
still has a 6-to-1 chip sales lead, and I don't think that
would be possible if AMD sold more desktop chips.

Also Xeon and Itanium are not obsolete, although I think
Opteron is the right choice at this time. If AMD can get Dell
on-board with Opteron servers, there might not be enough
chip capacity available for AMD to fulfill all those orders.
