Itanium is indeed a decent EPIC-RISC arch but it REMAINS to be seen how it does head to head with the Power5 RISC chip.

As for AMD64 I agree that took Intel by surprise and indirectly gave its senile x86 ISA a few more years of survival. I wish that AMD could move to non x86 ISAs but I don't think they have the resources for this (unless SUN drops in a few $$$).
