It was about time already! Intel had so many difficulties in making up its mind in the last 2 years:

Should I keep pumping billions in R/D to improve the promising Itanium-2?

Should I 64-bit-ify the ancient x86?

Should I push the clock speed up for P4?

Should I design chips for SMPs?

Life is so hard....
