Ya missed the point

"but VIA's boards are true customizable computers"

From the story:
"AMD's Personal Internet Communicator is designed to provide Net connectivity and Windows-based computing for consumers in emerging economies."

They are assuming that these folks are not tech savvy and would not have any interest in upgrading, case modding the like.

I for one cannot see a family that is living on a thousand dollars annually spending the money for "inet" services and this thing. That is pretty steep.

The one thing AMD did right is they latched onto the TaTa comapany to market this thing.

This company markets everything from a brand named auto to food stuffs to consumer electronics to communications in the 4 largest citites in India.
