A little late on the draw for AMD, perhaps.
Sounds like they're trying to get in on the Mini-ITX action. AMD's box appears to have better performance, but VIA's boards are true customizable computers with limited slots (1 PCI and 1 DIMM RAM slot, as I recall) and a small, low power, slow (but fast enough for most applications) x86-compatible CPU.

A system built around the mini-ITX will cost more than the AMD box (I can build an ITX system for around $300, including monitor, depending on what's on sale today at Fry's happy ). I image that a decently large system builder getting quantity pricing can sell systems for around $230-$250 (with monitor).

One problem AMD faces is that the mini-ITX form factor had grabbed the fancy of computer hobbyists and folks are doing weird things with them like using a toaster (chrome--quite flash!) as the case, sticking them in their cars for mobile media centers, etc.
