I can't say whether or not Windows works or not with an Opteron or Athlon 64, but have never had a problem with prior AMD proc's and either Windows or Linux loads. That has included K-6 II, Palomino, Thoroughbred and Barton procs. Loaded in W98/WNT(workstation and server)/W2K(workstation and server)/WXP. Problems I've run into had been hardware - power supply and cooling. Needless to say, I've run into the same with Linux installs too. Both load well, both run well, few problems.

The only patch that AMD has ever offered for MS is pretty old now - that was specific to machines running Athlon or Duron procs and Windows 2000 series OS's and using an AGP video card. Problem was sending bad video to an AGP card - the patch consists of a regkey.
