I will not pass judgement on whether you or the story, or both, are accurate.

I would like to point out, though, that it is possible for a machine powered by a 2 GHz processor to be faster than a machine powered by a 2.5 GHz processor. A lot depends on the architecture of the machine as a unit, including the processor. And, of course, on the performance criteria.
